National Recycling Week 2024: ‘Join the Cycle’ and make a difference!
Council and Planet Ark is reminding residents that much of what is currently sent to landfill is valuable material that could be reused, repurposed or recycled as part of National Recycling Week 2024.
This year’s theme, Join the Cycle, encourages Australians to get involved and make a positive impact during National Recycling Week, whether at home, work or school.
Gladstone Region Councillor and LGAQ Waste Management & Circular Economy Advisory Group member, Mellissa Holzheimer said Council is running its National Recycling Week campaign from 9- 15 November, providing opportunities for residents and workplaces to learn simple methods of reducing their environmental footprint and preventing waste.
“Residents can host or join recycling themed activities, brush up on their recycling knowledge with educational resources, learn about new developments in recycling policy and technology, or discover tricks to reduce what they are sending to landfill to ensure resources don’t go to waste,” Councillor Holzheimer said.
“Council will host activities at our libraries, including The Precinct Library at Philip Street, and at Tondoon Botanic Gardens.”
Cr Holzheimer encouraged residents to take the 7-Day National Recycling Week Challenge.
“This is a great opportunity to challenge your community, workplace, or school to participate in a week-long recycling sprint,” she said.
“Recycling and repurposing materials can be a fun activity, but it’s also something we can focus on every week of the year, so please use National Recycling Week as the starting point on your recycling journey if you haven’t already.”
