Frequently Asked Questions
What is the ‘Pet Pals Program’?
Council has developed a program aimed at primary school students in relation to what it takes to be a responsible pet owner. This program is delivered by one of our Local Law Enforcement Officers who share their knowledge on responsible pet ownership, safety around animals, animal welfare and animals in the community. It provides a hands-on, interactive approach to learning for our future pet owners.
How much does it cost to participate in the program?
It’s free! There is no cost to schools to participate in the program, it is an initiative of the Gladstone Regional Council to offer the program free of charge to educate future pet owners.
How long does each presentation go for?
Each presentation will go for about 30 minutes per group. If there are several groups, it may be beneficial to complete the groups over two days to minimise the impact on Council staffing and school hours.
What do we need to provide?
The school will need to provide a suitable area for the presentation to take place and adequate staffing to supervise each presentation. Council staff may bring along a Canine Education Officer to assist in the program so if there are any concerns with animals in buildings please keep this in mind.
