Sites to rest or stay
There are a number of sites located around the Gladstone Region where travellers can stop to rest or stay overnight.
Existing overnight facilities on Council owned/controlled land
Site 1 - Futter Creek Camping Reserve, Boynedale
Location:
Gladstone-Monto Road, Boynedale
Nearest Town:
Calliope (Approximately 20.9km)
Existing Infrastructure/Toilets:
→ Rest area
→ Toilet block
→ Picnic tables
→ 72-hour time limit
→ No fires allowed
→ Dogs allowed (but must be on leash)
Cost:
No Charge
Site 2 - Calliope River Picnic Area, River Ranch
Two Sites (or sides)
North Side: Calliope Historical Village (Entry via Bruce Highway)
South Side: Old Bruce Highway, River Ranch (Entry via Bruce Highway)
Nearest Town:
Calliope (Approximately 12.5km)
Existing Infrastructure/Toilets:
*** This free rest area is suitable for self-contained travellers only. ***
→ Dogs allowed (but must be on leash)
→ 48-hour time limit
→ Nearby Calliope Historical Village provides refreshments such as tea, coffee, and soft drinks.
→ Markets are held at Calliope Historical Village on a frequent basis

Site 3 - Workman's Beach Camp Grounds, Agnes Water
Due to safety and security concerns and incidences of non-compliances with conditions for camping, we will not be accepting any further bookings for this camp ground. If you have any queries relating to this message, please contact us on (07) 4970 0700 during business hours.

Entry via Springs Road, Agnes Water
Nearest Town:
Agnes Water (Within Town)
Existing Infrastructure/Toilets:
→ 38 camp sites available for tents and caravans. Allocation is on a 'first-in' basis only.
→ Unisex and disabled toilets
→ Cold water beach shower
→ Picnic tables
→ Free gas barbecues
→ Bins provided
→ Drinking water
→ Unpatrolled beach adjacent
→ Maximum stay is 14 days.
→ Dogs must be leashed and tethered
Free camping | Bookings required (maximum of six people per camp site)
Site 4 - Gladstone Harbour Islands
Location:
Two Sites:
The Oaks Camping Ground, Facing Island
South End Camping Ground, Curtis Island
Access via private boat or the local ferry service which operates five days per week.
There is no potable water available on the island. Campers are to bring enough water supply for the duration of their stay.

Facing Island / Curtis Island
Existing Infrastructure/Toilets:
→ Composting toilets on both sites cleaned regularly be caretakers
→ 32 camp sites available at “The Oaks”
→ 20 camp sites available at “South End”
→ Dogs must be leashed and tethered
Cost:
Overnight campers require a permit.
Permits available for:
- Family (2 adults and 2 children under 17 years) per day
- Per person per day
- School groups – attending an approved school excursion per person, per day
Site 5 - Lilley's Beach, Boyne Island
Location:
Entry via Handley Drive, Boyne Island
Nearest Town:
Boyne Island (Within Town)
Existing Infrastructure/Toilets:
→ Camping only permitted in the enclosed area at the northern end
→ Site is very basic. No facilities or rubbish bins.
→ Dogs must be on leash and well trained to voice commands
Cost:
Yearly or weekly permits available and a charge applies for replacement permits.

There are three roadside day rest areas in the below locations:
Site 1. Boyne River Rest Area – Bruce Hwy, Benaraby (DTMR)
Site 2. Bororen Memorial Park Rest Area – Bruce Hwy, Bororen (GRC)
Site 3. Mount Larcom Park Rest Area – Raglan St, Mount Larcom (GRC)

Gladstone has several water fill stations situated side by side with dump point locations.
Calliope Caravan Dump Point
Cnr Taragoola Road and Dawson Highway, Calliope
→ No usage charge
Miriam Vale Caravan Dump Point
Cnr Blomfield Street and Dougall Street, Miriam Vale
→ Potable water available on site (but no signage)
Seventeen Seventy Caravan Dump Point
Cnr SES Access and Captain Cook Drive, Seventeen Seventy
→ Water is designated as “Non-potable” as there is no back-pressure valve installed.

→ Mt. Larcom look-out
