Work on the Silverdale Reservoir renewal project commenced in January and involved:

• Construction of aluminium stairs and landings to access the top of the reservoir safely
• Replacing the existing corroded internal columns with stainless steel columns.
• Lightning protection
• Replacement of overflow pipeline
• Security measures (fencing and locking systems)
• Measures to increase the integrity of the reservoir such as wall sealing, concrete and joint repairs
• Replacement of isolation and control valves and internal pipework.

Gladstone Region Deputy Mayor Natalia Muszkat said the reservoir work was identified and delivered as part of Council’s 2023/24 Capital Works program and funded via the Queensland Government’s Building our Regions program.

“These renewal works will increase the operational life of the reservoir, increase water security and safety and provide design consistency with other reservoirs in the region,” Councillor Muszkat said.

“The reservoir’s capacity remains at 2.2ML and will serve 403 properties within the Sliverdale Reservoir Catchment.”

Minister for Water Glenn Butcher said the Building our Regions grants helped dozens of local councils get funding for projects that often get overlooked in the council budget.

“Water and sewerage infrastructure isn’t sexy, or interesting, even though these things are vital to a community’s living standards,” Minister Butcher said.

“The Building our Regions grant of $305,000 will benefit the community in Calliope because the infrastructure that provides their drinking water – Silverdale Reservoir – is now well maintained and in good repair.

“This means Council’s budget can be redirected to other projects.”

The Silverdale Reservoir Renewal project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Building our Regions program.
