Free microchipping for new animal registrations made during October
Council is doing its bit to encourage responsible pet ownership by offering free microchipping for all new animal registrations made in October.
How it works?
- Register your new pet with Council during October 2023. October is our early payment discount period where you can save on your pet's registration with Council
- Eligible owners will be contacted to organise the free microchipping appointment once registration is finalised (appointments available in 15-minute intervals, Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 4.30pm)
- Bring your pet (dog or cat) in for a quick, painless microchipping procedure (on lead or in pet cage) at the Gladstone Region Pound (17 Albert Street, Callemondah)
- Please bring your proof of registration on the day of your booking.
Gladstone Region Councillor Chris Cameron said it is a Queensland Government requirement that dogs and cats, aged 12 weeks and over, must be registered and microchipped and the microchip details provided to Council.
“If your pet is wearing their registration tag, is microchipped and the microchip and registration details are kept up to date, you are giving your pet the best possible chance to be reunited with you if they become lost,” Councillor Cameron said.
Cr Cameron said existing animal owners will start to receive their animal registration renewal notices in the first week of October with an early payment discount date of Tuesday 7 November 2023.
“Around 15,500 renewal notices will be sent out to registered pet owners across the Gladstone Region. In the lead-up to the issuing of notices, residents are encouraged to ensure their and their pets’ contact details listed with Council are up to date,” Cr Cameron said.
“If your mailing address has changed please complete an online Change of Address form via Council’s webpage. You can also sign up for EzyBill and have your Council Notices emailed to a preferred email address.”
Cr Cameron added that discounts apply for pensioners and is encouraging them to complete a Pension Remission form to obtain their discount.
“Forms are available on Council’s webpage or your nearest Customer Service counter,” he said.
“This is also the fourth year where Council will not issue tags for renewal registration, but they can be reissued if lost or damaged, with the first replacement tag free of charge.”
