Chip in for your best friend at Council’s Discount Microchipping Day
Gladstone Regional Council will host a Discount Microchipping Day to encourage responsible pet ownership ahead of Animal Registration Renewals being issued later this month.
The microchipping day will be held on Saturday 17 September at the Gladstone Region Pound (17 Albert Street, Callemondah) at a cost of only $15 per animal (dog or cat).
Appointments are in 15-minute blocks and available between 8.30am to 3.45pm. Bookings are essential.
Call Council on 4970 0700 or visit your nearest Council Transaction Centre to secure your place. Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett encouraged pet owners to take advantage of the discounted price to receive further discounts on their upcoming Animal Registration Renewal Notice, set to be issued from Monday 26 September.
“Microchipped animals receive a discount on registration between $17-$19 per year, whereas desexed and microchipped animals receive a discount on registration of up to $80 per year,” Councillor Burnett said.
“If your pet is wearing their registration tag, is microchipped and the microchip and registration details are kept up to date, you are giving your pet the best possible chance to be reunited with you if they become lost.”
It is a Queensland Government requirement that dogs and cats, born after April 2009, aged 12 weeks and over, must be registered and microchipped, with the microchip details provided and updated with your local council.
Exemptions are only available by Veterinarian Certificate that is supplied to Council, stating microchipping risks the animal’s health or approved Council Assessed Working Dogs.
This is the third year where Council will not issue tags for renewal registration, but they can be reissued if lost or damaged, with the first replacement tag free of charge.
