First stage of Toolooa Street road rehabilitation works complete
Gladstone Regional Council has completed the first stage of asphalt seal works along southbound lanes of Toolooa Street (between Derby St and Roberts St).
This work is part of Council’s capital works program with the broader Toolooa Street (Derby St to Agnes St) Pavement Rehabilitation project to be delivered by Council’s road crew across several stages over the next 12 months.
Council will progressively work towards laying a new asphalt road seal in both directions on the next section of Toolooa Street, from Agnes Street to Derby Street.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said during the next phase of the project, the road must be excavated, and new road layers constructed before the asphalting can occur.
“These are significant works that will cause traffic disruption, but we will work with the community to plan and communicate before works start,” Councillor Burnett said.
“During this financial year, Council will also construct a new sewer rising main in Toolooa Street to replace ageing infrastructure with roadworks staged around this future project to avoid damage to the new asphalt road seal.”
Cr Burnett said maintaining and improving our road network remains a top priority for Council.
“Roads are vital pieces of infrastructure that make a crucial contribution to the economic growth and development of our region,” he said.
“This section of Toolooa Street services businesses and residential areas and provides access to other nearby services such as medical and educational facilities.
“Strengthening this section of road will also offer a smoother travel experience for motorists.”
Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said the Palaszczuk Government was proud to contribute towards project funding via the successful Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme.
“Our strong investment in the scheme helps to deliver better transport infrastructure, in partnership with local government,” Mr Butcher said.
“I’m proud to see work on the phase of the project between Derby and Roberts Streets complete, which will help locals safely access their homes, as well as businesses and schools.
“Better yet, this work is supporting jobs in the Gladstone Region – that’s good for jobs, good for the economy and good for our roads.
“These works are just one example of the Palaszczuk Government’s seventh record road and transport budget that has delivered for the Fitzroy area, with more than $1.5 billion in road and transport infrastructure in the pipeline.”
The Toolooa St (Derby St to Agnes St) Pavement Rehabilitation project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government through the Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS), and Gladstone Regional Council.
