Residents advised to be vigilant as heavy rain forecast in coming days
Gladstone Regional Council would like to remind residents to take precautions and keep up to date with weather warnings ahead of heavy rain that has fallen and is forecast to fall in the coming days.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has forecast heavy rainfall from today (11 May) until at least Friday 13 May, easing across the weekend.
Gladstone Regional Council CEO Leisa Dowling is asking residents to remain vigilant during current and forecast rainfall.
“We’re asking residents to prepare for heavy rainfall and any localised flooding that may occur as a result,” Ms Dowling said.
“As always, the message about driving over flooded roads is a simple one – if it’s flooded, forget it.
“Residents should also avoid riding or walking through flood waters, and to keep clear of creeks and stormwater drains.”
Ms Dowling reminded residents to make sure their prescription medications were up to date and to stay informed via the RegionWatch website.
“The RegoinWatch website is a great resource where community members can access live updates from multiple sources,” she said.
“It highlights road conditions, roadworks, Bureau of Meteorology weather warnings, power outages, flood cameras, school closures from the Department of Education and emergency bulletins from Council’s disaster management system.
“Many of these features are useful all year round and accessible on the go, as the RegionWatch system is mobile friendly.”
