Council empowering region’s young people to speak out and be heard
Gladstone’s young people aged between 15 and 25 are invited to register by tomorrow (30 March) for the first ever Youth Summit Planning Workshop.
It will be held on 1 April 2022 at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the first week in April was traditionally Youth Week, but this year will see some exciting new changes to the usual entertainment.
“Our youth have different and diverse needs, so we are encouraging them to be fearless and bold, find their voice and follow their passion,” Councillor Burnett said.
“The planning workshop will be a public event open to anyone from the group aged 15 to 25.
“Attendees will receive training from the Jeder Institute to design and deliver the region’s first Youth Summit expected to be held in September.”
Cr Burnett said the workshop would be the first of a series in a codesign process to produce an event designed for and facilitated by young people that explores topics important to them.
The summit will discuss key issues including the environment, mental health, education, employment and social issues.
These discussions will result in a series of recommendations to improve young people’s lives and form part of an advocacy document for the Youth Council.
Cr Burnett said our youth are the region’s future so Council has committed resources, funding and time to ensure they are represented, heard and involved in decisions that will impact them.
