Alternative traffic routes in place due to Bruce Highway closure
Council, together with emergency services, the SES and TMR are working to redirect traffic from the Bruce Highway following a multi-vehicle accident that occurred north of Bororen earlier this morning
Road closures are currently in place on the Bruce Highway at Tannum Sands Road (north end) and Blackmans Gap Road (south end).
The following traffic directions are in place:
- Light and heavy vehicle traffic traveling south from Rockhampton will be detoured at Calliope o Heavy vehicles will be directed through to Biloela
- Light vehicle traffic travelling north will be detoured at Mt Perry
- Heavy vehicle traffic traveling north will be detoured at Childers
- Blackmans Gap Road will be open to local traffic only
- Variable Message Boards will be in place to direct traffic on affected roads.
Emergency services personnel are also aware of a subsequent explosion at the crash site with a 3km exclusion zone established prior to this incident with 49 people evacuated.
The explosion has caused significant damage to the Bruce Highway and has also affected the North Coast rail line with Queensland Rail aware.
Gladstone Regional Council will prepared the Miriam Vale Community Centre as a place of refuge if required.
