This work is included in Council’s Capital Works program and follows completion of Stage 1 in Agnes Water, Seventeen Seventy, Miriam Vale and Bororen in recent months.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said he was excited to announce Beecher and Burua would be next to benefit from Council’s staged, whole-of-region project.

“We will be reaching out to residents in Beecher and Burua soon with more information about what this means for them,” Councillor Burnett said.

“Since the completion of Stage 1, we have been able to identify leaks at a number of properties in the southern part of our region.

“These have subsequently been resolved, saving the loss of thousands of litres of water from the water network.

“Once advanced water meter infrastructure is in place, residents in those areas can then sign up to the My Water portal which will show them their near real-time water usage.”

Cr Burnett said users could also set up high usage alerts and have monthly water usage reports emailed directly to their inbox.

“Most importantly, this valuable data can help with detection of leaks on properties which otherwise might go unnoticed,” he said.

“This infrastructure upgrade project is just one initiative to ensure water sustainability for our region and Council will continue to work with the community to make every drop count.”
