Recovery efforts for residents affected by the Deepwater/Baffle Creek Fires
Council officers supported by Qld Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) and Ergon Energy have been carrying out Rapid Damage Assessments today of some areas affected by the Deepwater/Baffle Creek Fires.
As of 2.44pm, QFES released advices:
- RETURN WITH CAUTION - Deepwater (near Agnes Water) for properties between Capricornia Drive, Pacific Drive, Oceania Court and Muller Road including Sorensen Road.
- RETURN WITH CAUTION - Oyster Creek (near Agnes Water) for properties between Uxbridge Road, Oyster Creek Road, Muller Road and Coast Road, including Kirchner Road.
A Response Hub will be set up at the Baffle Creek Community Centre tomorrow (Sat, 21 October) so affected residents can access social services; such as The Salvation Army, Uniting Care, Department of Communities, Aussie Helpers and Gladstone Region Neighbourhood Centre; and talk to Council officers.
To help co-ordinate recovery efforts, Council has partnered with GIVIT www.givit.org.au/ with a Queensland Bushfire Appeal set up. Currently this appeal will specifically assist residents affected by the Deepwater/Baffle Creek Fires. GIVIT manage all offers of goods and services, if you wish to donate, please pledge your offer directly to GIVIT.
The Baffle Creek Transfer Station will re-open on Saturday and Sunday (21 and 22 October) from 1pm-4pm with proof of residence identification required for free disposal of bushfire-related waste. Asbestos cannot be accepted.
