Major road servicing the Discovery Coast set to receive an upgrade
Gladstone Regional Council has commenced the first stage of a multi-year road renewal project along Round Hill Road heading towards Agnes Water.
Stage 1 of the Round Hill Road – Pavement Renewal Project involves road widening, road sealing and line marking on a 13km section of Round Hill Road between Fingerboard Road and Murphy Road.
This work forms part of Council’s 2022/23 and 2023/24 Capital Works program and will be delivered by a local contractor in several sections between Fingerboard Road and Murphy Road over the next 12 months.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said Round Hill Road is the main road servicing the tourist towns of Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.
“This project continues our program of road-widening and resealing roads in southern areas of our region,” Councillor Burnett said.
“The completion of these works will better support current and future traffic demand levels, while also allowing for a smoother travel experience for our locals and visitors.”
The $1.7M Round Hill Road – Pavement Renewal Project has received $1.6M in funding from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, with Council contributing the remaining cost.
Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce said the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program is critical to create local jobs and get funding flowing across the region.
“From sealing rough regional roads and installing safety barriers to upgrading sporting facilities and installing Wi-Fi networks, this program has already been making local projects that communities need and deserve a reality and I look forward to seeing more get underway,” Mr Boyce said.
“Thanks to the LRCI Program, this mean councils like Gladstone Regional Council will have the opportunity to deliver larger, more complex projects that will have even bigger impact on local communities.”
The LRCI Program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across the nation, supporting jobs and delivering benefits to local communities.
