The Gladstone Region is no stranger to bushfires, storms, flooding, cyclones, heatwaves and much more, so it’s important to prepare your family and home should the worst happen.

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted a La Nina weather pattern for the third year in a row, bringing wetter than average conditions again to Queensland. Southern areas of our region have already experience flooding in 2022.

Gladstone Region Acting Mayor Kahn Goodluck said research shows that over half of all Queenslanders are already getting ready this year.

“This year Get Ready Week is focusing on encouraging Queenslanders to pack an emergency kit to ensure your family has the basic items needed if you had to stay at home for three days,” Councillor Goodluck said.

Your emergency kit should include:

• Long life food and toiletries in case you can’t get to the shops
• Drinking water in case the water supply stops working
• Batteries, a power bank, a torch and a radio in case the power goes out
• Spare prescription medication
• Supplies for pets.

Cr Goodluck added that in addition to preparing an emergency kit, residents are strongly encouraged to sign up to RegionWatch – the region’s one-stop-shop for emergency and disaster information.

“RegionWatch bring together vital information on road conditions, weather warnings, fire conditions, power outages and more in one convenient place to help the community stay updated before and during an emergency,” he said.
