Step up to Clean Up Australia by participating in annual environmental event
The time to support an annual, long-standing Australian tradition is drawing closer with Gladstone Regional Council encouraging residents to participate in Clean Up Australia Day 2022.
As usual, there will be three dates to participate in – Business Clean Up Day (Tuesday 1 March), School Clean Up Day (Friday 4 March) and the official Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 6 March.
Registering for clean-up sites and or participation in the event can be done online via the Clean Up Australia Day website (www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au).
Gladstone Region Councillor Natalia Muszkat is encouraging residents to get involved in Clean Up Australia Day, not only for environmental benefits, but to also provide a social outing for members within our communities.
“Clean Up Australia Day is an event that helps grow community pride, provides participants with fresh air, exercise and sense of purpose, but most importantly it helps contribute to a healthy environment,” Councillor Muszkat said.
“Each Registered site will be provided with a Clean Up Australia Day Kit which includes bags, gloves, sharps containers and sanitiser for use by volunteers on the day.
“These Clean Up Kit’s are posted out by Clean Up Australia and require about two weeks for delivery, so interested participants will ideally need to register their site within the next week to ensure their kit arrives on time.
“Council crews will offer support by providing skip bins at key locations for the community to place their collecting bags and oversized items from their registered sites during the week following Clean Up Australia Day.”
Clean Up Australia Day was first held in 1990 and since then more than 19 million Australians have donated their time as part of Clean Up Australia activities, equating to 38.5 million hours of volunteer time.
