Footpath and road renewal to future-proof a section of Toolooa Street
Gladstone Regional Council has commenced a footpath and road renewal project along a section of Toolooa Street, forming part of Council’s 2021/22 Capital Works program.
The $1.5m project is jointly funded by the Queensland Government through the Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS) and Gladstone Regional Council.
The project will involve Council road crews and contractors revitalising approximately 450m of footpath and road along Toolooa Street, between Walsh Street and Short/Young Street, as the condition of the road, kerb and footpath in this area has deteriorated.
Works have now started with the project expected to be completed by mid-December.
Gladstone Region Councillor Rick Hansen said Council was also future-proofing Toolooa St by placing conduits underneath the road at regular intervals to support future services.
“Council will install stormwater pipes and conduits for future water services,” Cr Hansen said.
“This forward planning by Council will allow further services and capacity to be provided to residents and businesses in this area as they are required in the future.”
Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are advised to expect detours, reduced speed limits and changes to traffic conditions within this overall works area at different stages of this project.
At times sections of Toolooa St will be restricted to local traffic only with access to businesses under the direction of traffic controllers.
Works will include:
- Road renewal
- Services relocation – install of conduit for future water services and install of stormwater pipes
- Footpath construction – footpaths widened to 1800mm wide on the residential side of Toolooa St
- Kerb construction – full kerb and channel replacement
- Landscaping.
