Council projects to deliver sewer network improvements
Works on various sewer infrastructure projects are underway as part of Gladstone Regional Council’s continuous focus on infrastructure improvements.
As part of Council’s Capital Works program, separate Sewer Main and Sewer Manhole renewal works are scheduled to occur in areas of Boyne Island, Calliope, Gladstone and Tannum Sands during the next few months.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said these projects aim to improve sewer network reliability, operational efficiency and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.
“Working to replace deteriorating assets will help prevent water infiltration into the sewer network and reduce the likelihood of blockages or overflows which could otherwise lead to unplanned service disruptions for residents,” Councillor Burnett said.
“The Sewer Main Renewal Project is a multi-year project occurring in stages and will involve sewer cleaning, relining and sealing.
“The Sewer Manhole Renewal Project will involve relining or refurbishment of sewer manholes to help prevent water entering and impacting our sewer network capacity.”
Cr Burnett added that sewer services are not expected to be affected by works however some noise, possible odour and additional traffic in streets may be noticed.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and co-operation during these works which will enable Council to deliver necessary improvements to our infrastructure,” he said.
Residents within work areas have received notification prior to the commencement of these works.
Contractors will carry identification, and in some locations, will require entry to properties to access Council’s sewer main assets, or for service junction repair and connection.
Entry to properties will be made in accordance with Part 2, Section 144 of Local Government Act 2009.
