Site drilling collects soil data for two future culvert renewal projects
Site data is being collected to prepare for the future renewal of two culverts located near busy Gladstone intersections.
Two concrete culverts have been identified as in need of replacement, with planning underway to renew these assets, as part of Gladstone Regional Council’s Capital Works program.
Both culverts are critical Council assets which sustain substantial heavy vehicle traffic daily.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said geotechnical investigation work had been scheduled consecutively near the existing culverts to assist with engineering design for the culvert renewal projects.
“Council has engaged a specialised contractor to drill a series of holes at each of the locations to confirm the type and structure of soil and assess moisture content in the work areas,” Councillor Burnett said.
Cr Burnett added that on-site testing has been completed near Palm Drive culvert (located on Palm Dr about 70m from the Blain Dr intersection), with similar works now taking place near Lord Street culvert (located on Lord St about 100m from the Hanson Rd intersection) until about Friday 8 November.
“Site conditions and weather permitting, on-site testing is scheduled to occur Monday to Friday, with at times, moderate drilling noise for short durations, reduced width of road lanes, machinery and workers in the area, reduced speed limits and traffic disruptions,” he said.
“Contact has been made with nearby residents and businesses and motorists are urged to be mindful of works occurring in Lord Street with reduced speed limits and traffic management in place between Hanson Road and Pitt Street.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and co-operation during these site works which will enable Council to deliver necessary improvements to our infrastructure.”
Drivers are encouraged to plan for possible delays, road changes and follow signs and directions.
