New signs for dog management are being installed across the region
Council is installing new signage to advise of any dog restrictions within certain public areas across the region.
The signs indicate dogs on leash areas, dogs off leash areas and dogs prohibited areas.
Some signs may indicate the months where dogs must be on leash and months where they can be kept off leash.
The signs have been installed in several public areas including the Bunting Park Dog Park in Calliope, Air Sea Rescue Park in Agnes Water and the Millenium Esplanade in Tannum Sands.
Signage reflects the local law in relation to dog regulation and penalties apply for breaching the rules.
Gladstone Region Councillor Leanne Patrick said, “The new signs offer a basic traffic light system of red, yellow and green to offer a user-friendly system for visitors to our parks, beaches and other public spaces to easily identify areas where their furry friends need to be prohibited, restrained or can play freely.
“Each sign displays a QR code which when scanned will lead to Council’s website.
“There, you can view more information on dogs in public places, including dogs off leash, dogs on leash and dog prohibited areas.”
Dogs must be on leash in public places unless otherwise specified.
Dog owners are also reminded that dogs must always be under effective control, dogs must not be a nuisance to others and that owners are required to clean up after their dogs.
Please contact Gladstone Regional Council on (07) 4970 0700 for any enquiries or concerns regarding the signage, or head to www.gladstone.qld.gov.au/dogs-public-places for more information about keeping dogs in public places.
