Personal watercraft to be removed from Seventeen Seventy foreshore
Gladstone Regional Council requires watercraft owners to remove their kayaks, tenders, and other items from the Seventeen Seventy foreshore by 20 October 2024.
This decision has been made after allowing personal watercrafts to be stored in a temporary laydown area following a beach clean up program initiated by Maritime Safety Queensland in August 2022.
During this time, between 50-100 watercraft vessels have accumulated in this laydown area, creating maintenance, environment, safety and amenity issues for Council, and is also prohibited under Council’s Local Laws 1 and 4.
Fines may apply if personal watercraft are not removed by 20 October 2024.
Following the removal of all watercraft and items from the foreshore, Council will engage with community groups to revegetate the area to preserve and protect the coastline and surrounding parklands.
This clean up aligns to several beach and community clean up programs, is ahead of the storm and wet season and the area will be enhanced ahead of the many scheduled weddings nearby.
