Community Champions recognised during National Volunteer Week
More than 600 community champions have been recognised for their generous contributions to our community during 2024 National Volunteer Week celebrations held throughout the region.
Earlier this year, Gladstone Regional Council asked the community to nominate volunteers who strive to make the region the best place it can be, and the region responded in emphatic fashion with 638 nominations received – the largest number of nominations since 2018.
With National Volunteer Week now behind us, Gladstone Region Councillor Simon McClintock is encouraging the community to incorporate volunteering into their weekly routine.
“Whether you are drawn to environmental causes, community outreach, sport, education or something else, there is a place within volunteering where your unique skills and interests can flourish,” Cr McClintock said.
“Whether you are a life-long volunteer or just starting your volunteering journey, your efforts make a difference.
“Australia has about six million volunteers, but I believe some of the best in the country are right here in the Gladstone Region.”
Council held several events throughout National Volunteer Week in recognition of our region’s volunteers, including three Breakfast of Champions events.
Venues in Agnes Water, Calliope and Gladstone hosted breakfasts with 297 people in attendance.
