Road improvements will make a difference
Motorists and pedestrians will notice an increase in roadwork activity within Gladstone Central throughout the next month as Council’s 2023/24 Capital Works program ramps up.
One of the road projects Council will undertake is safety improvements at the intersection of Auckland and Herbert Streets.
Gladstone Region Councillor Rick Hansen said safety improvements at the intersection are funded under the Black Spot Program.
“The Black Spot Program allows local governments, community and road user groups, industry and individuals to nominate a high priority site for funding,” Councillor Hansen said.
“Sites can be chosen based off past accidents, or sites at risk of future accidents where road traffic engineers have completed a Road Safety Audit and found that remedial work is necessary.
“These works have commenced with an expected completion in mid-September 2023, site conditions and weather permitting.”
Council is also in the middle of completing asphalt resurfacing works on various streets within South Gladstone and Gladstone Central.
This follows the completion of asphalt resurfacing works conducted along various roads in Glen Eden, Telina and South Gladstone that took place in June.
The South Gladstone and Gladstone Central roadworks are expected to be completed by mid-August, weather permitting.
Meanwhile, the School Zone in front of Gladstone Central State School has recently been extended in response to community feedback.
Gladstone Central State School’s School Zone will now extend along Auckland Street between Roseberry Street and the Gladstone Port Access Road overpass.
The 40km/h School Zone speed limit is in effect during school pick-up and drop-off hours (7.30am to 9am and 2.30pm to 4pm), reverting to the urban default of 50km/h outside of these hours, including weekends and school holidays.
