Beat plastic pollution at CQ’s largest environmental awareness event
CQ's largest environmental awareness event, Ecofest, is right around the corner so make sure you have Sunday 4 June circled on your calendar for a fun and educational day at Tondoon Botanic Gardens.
The whole family can enjoy a day out from 9am-3pm on Sunday 4 June with kids’ activities, educational workshops from leaders in gardening and sustainability, as well as eco-market stalls, plant sales, food trucks, live music, guest speakers and much more.
Gladstone Region Councillor Desley O’Grady said Ecofest provides the community with information on how they can live a greener and more sustainable lifestyle, while making choices that take care of the planet.
“Ecofest brings educational and informative workshops, demonstrations, activities and entertainment to the community in the natural space of the award-winning Tondoon Botanic Gardens,” Councillor O’Grady said.
“Every business, group or individual who is a part of Ecofest has committed to make a change towards a sustainable future and demonstrate how they are mindful of their consumption.”
Running in conjunction with World Environment Day (held annually on 5 June and celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023), Ecofest will also take on the theme of ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’.
“According to the United Nations Environment Programme, one million plastic bottles are purchased every minute across the globe, while up to five trillion plastic bags are used worldwide every year,” Cr O’Grady said.
“You can learn more about how to beat plastic pollution and so much more at Ecofest – we look forward to seeing you at Tondoon on the first Sunday in June.”
