Footpath construction to improve pedestrian connectivity at Clinton
Gladstone Regional Council has commenced construction of a footpath that will link the Dawson Highway at Clinton to Gladstone Airport.
Gladstone Region Acting Mayor Kahn Goodluck said work will involve construction of a 600m long, two-metre-wide footpath along Aerodrome Road, Clinton.
“The footpath is being constructed on the airport side of Aerodrome Road, linking the Gladstone Airport vehicle entrance to the Dawson Highway,” Councillor Goodluck said.
“Work will start from the Dawson Highway end of Aerodrome Road and will progress across four stages towards the airport.
“Once completed, the new footpath will provide greater pedestrian connectivity for the community, airport passengers including visitors to the region, while improving pedestrian safety in the area.”
Council anticipates the project will be completed by the end of July 2023, weather permitting.
Works will take place Monday to Saturday from 6am until 6pm, with some noise, vibration and dust expected to be generated from the project site. Traffic management may also be in place at times.
Landscaping works adjacent to the footpath will occur, as will the installation of signage, bollards and pram ramps.
Cr Goodluck said the Aerodrome Road Footpath Construction project forms part of Council’s 2022/23 Capital Works program and has been funded by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.
“It’s great the Australian Government has been able to financially contribute towards this project as it helps Council make infrastructure improvements to our region without the need to spend extra ratepayer dollars,” he said.
“I look forward to seeing this footpath put to good use by Clinton residents, airport passengers and the wider Gladstone community.”
The Aerodrome Road Footpath project was funded by the Australian Government and Gladstone Regional Council. Australian Government funding of $200,000 was provided through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, with Council contributing $26,000.
This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia.
