Sport and Active Living Festival wins Sustainable Communities award
Gladstone Regional Council’s inaugural Sport and Active Living Festival has taken out a Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns Award after just one attempt.
This first festival was held over seven days in October 2019. Its community value was recognised in winning the Community Health, Wellbeing and Interest Award as part of the 2020 Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns Awards announced on 11 December.
Gladstone Region Acting Mayor Kahn Goodluck said the festival was designed to celebrate and support sport and active living within the region.
“Sections of our community have always been very active and sporty, but there can never be enough encouragement for people of all ages to get out and try new forms of exercise,” Councillor Goodluck said.
“The inaugural festival also featured club development workshops to assist local sport and recreation organisations with their operations and the Biondello Bolt – a trail run up Mount Biondello, the highest peak in Gladstone.”
Council will present the next Sport and Active Living Expo on Saturday, 6 February 2021 at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre.
Cr Goodluck said sporting clubs, organisations and fitness/wellness businesses are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to hold a stall at the Expo, promoting their business.
“The Expo is set to feature some of the region’s local fitness trainers, health experts, sporting clubs and much more.
“COVID-19 saw the cancellation of this year’s Expo, but the 2021 Expo will see some exciting new additions including free fitness classes and lucky door prizes,” Cr Goodluck said.
If you are involved in a sport and recreational activity group that is interested in being involved, register your interest by completing the EOI form which can be found by visiting www.gladstone.qld.gov.au/sal-expo.
