Shed extension to boost operations of local SES group

Disaster response in the southern end of the Gladstone Region will be boosted by the extension of the Baffle Creek SES shed made possible through funding by the Queensland Government and Council.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the Extension of Baffle Creek SES Facility Project will see 42m2 added to the shed to accommodate the group’s flood boat.

“This boat is slightly larger than the previous one and doesn’t easily fit into the existing shed,” Councillor Burnett said.

“So, by extending the shed, the flood boat can be safely and easily manoeuvred in and out of the storage area without the risk of damage to people or property.

“In addition to this, the extension also allows for a permanent storage solution for supplies and will free up space for training and management of operations.”

The project is currently underway.

Gladstone MP Glenn Butcher said the project will boost the group’s disaster response capabilities.

“Our SES volunteers at Baffle Creek do an incredible job serving the Gladstone community and these upgrades will ensure they have the facilities they need to respond,” Mr Butcher said.

“The existing Baffle Creek SES shed will be extended and a bigger roller door installed, to allow for the storage of vital equipment including the group’s 5.3 metre flood boat.

“This upgrade has been funded through the State Government’s 2023-24 SES Support Grant Project to support the delivery of new or replacement vehicles and upgraded facilities.

“We know Baffle Creek is prone to flooding and this upgrade will support our local SES in their capability in disaster events.”

The Extension of Baffle Creek SES Facility Project is funded by the State Government’s SES Support Grant and Gladstone Regional Council.

The State Emergency Service (SES) Support Grant is a Queensland Government Grant Program administered by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES).
