Bonsai House to add to Tondoon Botanic Gardens’ public collection
Gladstone Regional Council is currently undertaking works to connect utilities and services to the existing Bonsai House at Tondoon Botanic Gardens to prepare it for opening to the public.
Included in Council’s 2023/24 Capital Works program, the Bonsai House Utility Upgrade project will involve installation of a new water pipeline from Glenlyon Road to the facility.
Other works include:
- Removal and replacement of some panels and pavers in the existing area
- Drainage and irrigation system installation
- Electrical and communication connections to the Bonsai House and storage shed
- Painting
- Storage shed construction
- Provision of tables for bonsai display
- Landscaping.
Works are expected to be completed by mid-September 2024.
Gladstone Region Councillor Mellissa Holzheimer said works have been scheduled with visitors and dates of events within the gardens in mind.
“These works will not affect events such as Luminous, Rotary Charity Markets or the day-to-day operations of Junction CAFE at Tondoon,” Councillor Holzheimer said.
“The bulk of civil and construction activity is occurring near the Bonsai House on the western side of the Gardens away from frequently visited areas.
“However, delivering this project will enable the Bonsai House to be opened to the public and become an additional space within Tondoon Botanic Gardens for the community to enjoy.
“This eagerly anticipated facility will be a wonderful addition to our assets, and as always, we appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while works take place.”
Minister for Local Government Meaghan Scanlon said the Miles Government was investing in the region through the $1.1 billion Works for Queensland program.
“Works for Queensland ensures our 65 regional councils get the community infrastructure they need, delivering positive results for local families, tradies and businesses,” Minister Scanlon said.
“The Miles Government is backing regional councils and delivering the infrastructure partnerships to help make sure Queenslanders have the services, infrastructure and homes they need.”
The Tondoon Botanic Gardens Bonsai House Utility Services project is proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland funding 2021-24 in association with Gladstone Regional Council.
