Pedestrian and cyclist safety boosted by completion of Tannum footpath
Gladstone Regional Council has recently completed construction of a 690m long footpath designed to increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists by reducing the need to share the roadway with motorists
The 690m x 2.5m footpath has been constructed along the southwest side of Hampton Drive at Tannum Sands, connecting the existing footpath from Langdon Street to tie into an existing footpath that ended at Reef Adventureland Motor Inn (64 Hampton Drive).
Gladstone Region Councillor Glenn Churchill said that in addition to the new footpath, a raised priority crossing section has been installed at the Hampton Drive/Latrobe Street intersection.
“This design has several advantages that improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists,” Councillor Churchill said.
“These include improved visibility of pedestrians, cyclists and people with a disability, while also reducing vehicle speeds at the potential conflict point.
“Raised priority crossings are designed to slow down the vehicles which give more time for the pedestrian to react to approaching vehicles.”
Council received a $375,000 joint funding contribution from the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program to complete this project.
The Hampton Drive, Langdon St to Garnet St, Construct Shared Path project is proudly supported by the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program 2022-2023.
