Flying the flag for Gladstone and Team Australia on the world stage
Mayor Matt Burnett and CEO Leisa Dowling recently returned from the Netherlands after representing the Gladstone Region and Team Australia at the World Hydrogen 2024 Summit and Exhibition.
Cr Burnett and Ms Dowling represented Council at the Team Australia exhibition stand, forming part of a larger contingent of Austrade delegates attending to promote Australia’s growing hydrogen industry.
Ms Dowling said Gladstone Regional Council was the only local government and stand-alone region represented on Team Australia at the Summit, held from 13-15 May in Rotterdam.
“The Summit brought together hydrogen proponents, investors and hydrogen policy makers from around the world,” Ms Dowling said.
“It was a fantastic learning opportunity and offered many occasions to strengthen relationships and make invaluable new connections.
“It also offered a platform and opportunity to participate, share expertise, develop strategy as well as access the latest industry developments.”
Cr Burnett said events like this allow Council to continue to lead the way in planning for a new economic future for the Gladstone Region that will help drive Australia towards achieving net zero emissions.
“The upcoming Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Summit at Brisbane in September also provides an opportune time for us to leverage the connections that were made to secure commitments to visit Gladstone and potentially increase investment in regional hydrogen projects as a result,” he said.
