Beachside fun at Council’s free Australia Day Family Fun Day

Gladstone Regional Council will proudly host its annual free Australia Day Family Fun Day in the beachside surroundings of Tannum Sands’ Millennium Esplanade on Friday 26 January.

Everything from your favourite food to fun activities will be available from 10am to 1pm.

Gladstone Region Acting Mayor Kahn Goodluck said the range of food and entertainment would offer the perfect way to celebrate this beautiful country we all call home.

“There will be live music, Aussie-themed activities, free face painting, food vendors and a free sausage sizzle,” Councillor Goodluck said.

“The day, which is open to all community members, not only celebrates contemporary Australia but also acknowledges and respects our First Nations people.”

The winners from this year’s Celebrate Australia Primary School Art Competition will also be announced during the event.

Cr Goodluck is encouraging residents who cannot get along to Millenium Esplanade to attend other Council-supported Australia Day events taking place across the region.

“These include a Charity Cricket Match at the Captain Creek Sport and Rec Club,” he said.

“The Turkey Beach Progress Association will host an Australia Day breakfast at the Community Hall from 7am, while the Builyan Many Peaks Community Development Association will also host breakfast from 8am at the Builyan Hall.”

Cr Goodluck added that Council’s Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony and Gladstone Region Australia Day Awards Ceremony will be held at Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre during the evening of 25 January.

“The eve of Australia Day has traditionally been the time that we have held our Citizenship and Awards ceremonies,” he said.

“It is a combined ceremony that recognises the people in our community who have volunteered countless years to make our region what it is, alongside the new citizens who have chosen to make it their home.

“Holding the Awards and Citizenship Ceremony the night before has logistical benefits for our Events Team while also freeing up participants to enjoy different celebrations and activities the next day.”
