Expo and Flag Raising Ceremony headline NAIDOC Week events
Gladstone Regional Council and the Gladstone Neighbourhood Centre will host the second NAIDOC Week Services Expo at Philip Street Communities and Families Precinct on Wednesday 5 July.
From 9am until 1pm, attendees can browse a wide range of service providers who will showcase resources, products and services available to the First Nations community.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said The Salvation Army will host a free barbecue, while free fruit will be provided by Gladstone Neighbourhood Centre.
“There will also be live music, balloon twisting and face painting,” Councillor Burnett said.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to chat to local community groups, health services and other businesses.”
The NAIDOC Week Services Expo is a free event that takes place during NAIDOC Week (2-9 July).
“The community is also invited to attend the annual NAIDOC Week Flag Raising Ceremony and free Morning Tea on Monday 3 July from 9am-11am in front of Council Chambers at 101 Goondoon Street,” Cr Burnett added.
“The theme for NAIDOC Week 2023 is ‘For Our Elders’, which recognises that across every generation our Elders have played, and continue to play, an important role and hold a prominent place in our communities and families.
“NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity to reaffirm Council’s commitment to preserving and showcasing the cultural heritage of our region’s Traditional Owners; the Bailai, the Gurang, the Gooreng Gooreng and the Taribelang Bunda people, as well as other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in our region.”
