Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the Tannum Sands Road Shared Path works were identified in the Gladstone Regional Council Pedestrian and Cycle Strategy.

“The pathway will form part of the Boyne/Tannum network by providing better community connectivity,” Councillor Burnett said.

“It will allow for the Pacific Ranch area to access the Boyne/Tannum pathway network, as well as local shopping facilities.”

Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said the $320,000 path is jointly funded with Council through the Palaszczuk Government's Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.

“Bike riding is a great way to keep fit and get to places that are a short distance away. If we get more people on bikes, it means less cars and congestion on the road,” Mr Butcher said.

“As a key hub for growing communities, shops and schools, it's great to be able to work with Council to improve connectivity and get people riding their bike more often.

Cr Burnett said the community would only experience minor disruptions during the work period.

“There may be some minor disruption to traffic when Council undertake work at the Coronation Drive and Hampton Drive crossing, but it will be very minimal,” he said.

This section of the project will take about eight weeks to complete, inclusive of both earthworks and concrete path construction.

Cr Burnett said Council was committed to providing different ways to explore both the natural and residential scenery around the region.

“We know when people walk or cycle to get around, residents are healthier, streets are friendlier and safer, and towns are more vibrant and sustainable,” he said.
