Council welcomes Fitzroy to Gladstone pipeline approval
Gladstone Regional Council has welcomed the Queensland Government’s official approval of the $983 million Fitzroy to Gladstone pipeline construction.
The pipeline will deliver water security to the Gladstone Region which is expected to create 400 local jobs during construction and be completed by 2026.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett welcomed the announcement saying that water security is crucial for the development of Gladstone’s renewables and hydrogen projects.
“We know that the production of hydrogen will require a significant amount of water and this announcement ensures that renewable energy proponents can have confidence knowing that our region will be properly equipped to support current and future projects,” Mayor Burnett said.
“Council has been advocating for economic growth and diversification to make sure Gladstone is well-positioned to become the green energy manufacturing epicentre for Australia.”
In an Australian first, in November last year Council launched its 10-year economic transition roadmap to support and guide Council on what is required to adapt to a rapidly changing energy sector and support a positive economic transition for our community.
“With the right support and investment, such as this pipeline project, Gladstone is fast becoming a leader in renewables and clean industry and this will make our region an even greater place to live, work, play and invest,” Cr Burnett said.
