Council welcomes funding commitment for Boyne Tannum aquatic centre
Council has welcomed a funding commitment from the Federal Labor Opposition towards constructing the Boyne Tannum Aquatic Recreation Centre at the Coronation Drive site in Tannum Sands.
Gladstone Region Deputy Mayor Kahn Goodluck said Council had invested considerable funds and undertaken substantial work to develop plans for an aquatic recreation centre in the Boyne Island and Tannum Sands area, as this project has been one of Council’s major strategic focuses over the past four years.
“Council has consulted with the community, completed the feasibility study and identified the most suitable parcel of land to construct an aquatic recreation centre in the Boyne/Tannum area, work which has been happening since 2018, so it’s great to see such a significant funding commitment from the Federal Opposition,” Councillor Goodluck said.
“We undertook significant community consultation to help shape the feasibility study in 2019 and we are now eagerly waiting on concept design options.
“This is a positive step forward for the project and is another great example of our Council working with all levels of government and funding bodies to support our major projects, which means better outcomes for our communities.”
Federal Labor has committed a $15 million cash injection to support Council to develop and construct the Boyne Tannum Aquatic Recreation Centre.
