Spark memories and inspire conversations by donating Memory Kit items
Following the launch of Memory Kits to celebrate Seniors Month held in October, Gladstone Regional Libraries is seeking further memory kit items to add to their collection.
A memory kit is made up of objects from yesteryear and include items such as teapots, doilies, jugs, photographs and song sheets.
Suggested themes include farm life, travel and holidays, movies and TV shows, trains, celebrations, pets, food, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, migration and more.
Gladstone Region Councillor Chris Trevor said Gladstone Regional Libraries is looking for donation items from the 1920s (or earlier) up until the 1960s.
“Memory Kits are new to our libraries and are designed to share stories and inspire conversations with seniors in our community, encouraging them to remember times past,” Councillor Trevor said.
“The materials in these kits are specifically selected to spark memories, create conversation and allow positive and engaging interactions, especially between people suffering memory loss and their caregivers.
“Kits can be borrowed from all six libraries just like a book and are stored in plastic tubs or in bags.”
