Explore, create and play during Council’s school holiday program
Gladstone Regional Council’s facilities have collaborated to produce a busy June-July school holiday program for the region’s youth.
For two weeks from Monday 28 June to Friday 9 July, indoor and outdoor locations will be buzzing with the sound of excited students on holidays.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said our young people can learn about everything from theatre, art and craft, to animated movie making and Indigenous language.
“The two weeks of activities will encourage kids to explore, create and play across all our facilities including the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre (GECC), Gladstone regional libraries, the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum (GRAGM) and Tondoon Botanic Gardens,” Councillor Burnett said.
Through the school holiday program, Council aims to support and develop engaged, involved and proud communities.
“At the GECC on Thursday 1 July, a show called Brass Monkeys will celebrate kids who march to the beat of their own drum,” Cr Burnett said.
“Bursting with high calibre acrobatics, a ton of comedy, live music and highflying tricks, this show is perfect for little kids and grownups who like a big brass belly laugh!” he said.
On Tuesday 29 June, children aged five to seven years can use technology called Scratch Jr to create animated stories at Gladstone City Library, and the Calliope Library will be running sewing workshops on Wednesday 30 June and Wednesday 7 July.
Other events at Council libraries will include storytimes and movies while GRAGM will host NAIDOC Week workshops with Patricia Coleman, also in July.
On the final night of the two week program, a Creatures of the Night walk will be held at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens from 6pm to see what wildlife is out and about.
