$4.5M asphalt resurfacing project for Gladstone roads to start soon
Gladstone Regional Council will start asphalt resurfacing works on various Gladstone roads this month.
Gladstone Region Acting Mayor Chris Trevor said roads and several Central Business District (CBD) carparks had been identified and prioritised for resurfacing as part of Council’s annual asphalt resurfacing program.
“Roads scheduled for works are predominantly in the CBD area but also include roads in the Callemondah industrial area, West Gladstone and New Auckland,” Councillor Trevor said.
The $4.5M asphalt resurfacing project is expected to be carried out from 13 June to 30 August, weather permitting.
“Council is highly mindful of limiting the impact on residents and businesses and reducing the inconvenience to motorists during these works,” Cr Trevor said. Day works will occur whenever possible in an effort to reduce construction noise for nearby residents however majority of the asphalt resurfacing will need to be conducted at night to minimise overall impacts to road users.
“At night these roads have a lot less traffic which means work can occur with improved safety for motorists and workers, greater cost benefits and efficiencies,” Cr Trevor said.
Property and service access for residents and businesses won’t be affected however, traffic delays are likely.
“At times detours may be in effect and all motorists and pedestrians are urged to obey traffic signage and conditions,” Cr Trevor said.
Roads in the asphalt resurfacing program include: Several CBD carparks, Auckland St, Baillie St, Bramston St, Central Lane, Chapple St, Crow St, Drewe St, Endeavour St, Flinders Parade, Glenlyon St, Harbour Terrace, Herbert St, Kingdon St, Lord St, Off Lane/St, Rollo St, Yarroon St (PCYC), Breslin St, Callemondah Dr, Helen St, Roseanna St, Lorikeet Ave and Sandpiper Ave.
Cr Trevor said in addition to these asphalt resurfacing works, $0.5M of rural area reseal works were completed in May as part of Council’s overall $5M budget investment.
