Powerful new GRAGM exhibition is more than 100 years in the making
A powerful new exhibition is now on display at Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum (GRAGM) with an opportunity available to attend a formal exhibition opening next week.
Women: A Century of Change is a photography exhibition celebrating the publication of a new book from National Geographic.
On display now until May 22, the exhibition features stunning images and powerful profiles documenting the changing roles of women around the globe through the lens of National Geographic’s world-class image archive.
A formal exhibition opening will take place on Friday, 12 March from 6pm-7.30pm and is open to the public.
Patrons will see a glimpse of women through time, covering topics such as how women have been perceived, how they have been treated, how much power they have had or did not have, how they have faced challenges and how they have filled their days from the turn of the 20th century to the present.
Gladstone Region Councillor Natalia Muszkat said Women: A Century of Change explores the challenges and triumphs women may find in the future, as well as those they have experienced in the past.
“This exhibition delves deep into the archives to illuminate the inspirational, moving, and extraordinary stories of women who have pushed boundaries, overcome adversity and carved new pathways for themselves and others,” Councillor Muszkat said.
“In the exhibition you’ll encounter the stories and portraits of several accomplished and insightful women, including some of National Geographic’s own women of impact.
“There will be a limited number of copies of the new book from National Geographic available for purchase in the exhibition.
“Patrons who attend the formal opening can also explore the exhibition in a different way via an interpretative exploration through the exhibition.”
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 health emergency, capacity limits may apply for attendees.
Women: A Century of Change is organised and travelled by the National Geographic Society.
