The Gladstone Region Youth Council acts as a formal advisory committee to Council on youth related matters within the Gladstone Region.

Interested applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be aged 15 to 24 years
• Reside in the Gladstone Region
• Applications must be completed by the person submitting the application – this must include a written reference (which can be added as an attachment) and a resume
• Skype/teleconference connectivity for applicants living in remote areas (Agnes Water, Seventeen Seventy, Miriam Vale, Baffle Creek, Rosedale, Mt Larcom, Raglan etc.), although participation at meetings and Council events is highly encouraged where possible.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said Gladstone Region Youth Council members play an important role in the community.

“Youth Council members are selected based on their diverse strengths and experiences, knowledge of youth issues and willingness to bring about positive change our region,” Councillor Burnett said.

“Members are required to provide the perspective of young people through representation on other business and industry forums, assisting with designing Festival of Summer and Youth Week activities and be involved with community youth events and initiatives such as Clean Up Australia Day, Mayor’s Youth Breakfast, National Volunteers Week, Seniors Week, Avenue to Awareness and plenty more.

“Youth Council members meet on the first and third Monday of the month between 4pm-5pm, with members serving an initial one-year term, but can seek re-appointment for a subsequent term.

“I’d encourage any young person with a passion for their community to apply to be on next year’s 11-person Gladstone Region Youth Council.”

Applications are open until 14 February 2021 with applicants to be advised of their success in early March 2021.
