Students to gain insight into careers with Gladstone Regional Council
Gladstone Regional Council staff will highlight career opportunities within Council at this year’s EQIP 2019 Gladstone Careers Expo next Wednesday (8 May).
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said Council was pleased to be a major sponsor of the event, with more than 900 students scheduled to visit the expo at the CQUniversity Gladstone campus.
Council staff will be in attendance from across Council’s business units ready to talk to interested students.
“Gladstone Regional Council currently employs 652 staff in a diverse range of roles across a variety of Council locations,” Councillor Burnett said.
“The Careers Expo provides a great opportunity for students to talk one-on-one to those employed in fields, that they may be interested in, or are keen to know more about.
“There is such job diversity in local government with our staff at the expo working in areas such as talent and development, local laws, parks, governance, roads, water and engineering.”
Cr Burnett said the Careers Expo was a chance for Council to showcase its people and functions with some of Council’s apprentices and trainees also in attendance.
“In March, Council welcomed 16 new trainees and apprentices, our largest intake of trainees and apprentices within the last three years.
“Recruits headed into roles in Pest Management, Events, Arts Administration, Conservation and Land Management, Business Admin and Civil Construction.
“Some of the students attending the expo could possibly become part of Council’s future workforce.”
In addition to providing information about Council and career opportunities, Council has donated an expo prize of two tickets to a performance by Isaiah Firebrace at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre in August.
