Animal Inspection Program to commence soon in Gladstone Region
Gladstone Regional Council’s annual Animal Inspection Program will commence on 1 February and run for six months until 30 July.
Each year Council’s Local Law Enforcement Officers conduct house to house visits to determine if animals are being kept and if they are registered.
This year, Council officers will also be ensuring full compliance with microchipping requirements of the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008.
If your animals were born after 10 April 2009, they must be implanted with a prescribed permanent identification device PPID (microchip).
It is also a requirement under the Act for an animal owner to notify Council of any change of address or animal details.
Gladstone Region Councillor PJ Sobhanian said Council has a responsibility to enforce animal registration which contributes to effective animal management.
“Council is conducting these inspections to monitor compliance with Part 2 - Registration; and Part 4 - Renewal of Registration requirements of the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) Act 2008,” Councillor Sobhanian said.
“All Council officers and workers, who need to enter a property, are required to display identification and advise the property owner of the reason for the visit/inspection.”
Cr Sobhanian said there had been two reminder notices sent regarding registration, and Council advises that it is the responsibility of the animal owner to notify Council of any change of address.
“This program will also assist in the collection of statistical data to provide an accurate record of the number of animals in the area and will be used as a method of identifying lost pets, so they can be reunited with their owners,” Cr Sobhanian said.
Cr Sobhanian said the main purpose of the Animal Inspection Program was to promote responsible pet ownership by requiring owners to register their animals.
Council officers will carry out inspections of properties and yards in the following urban and rural areas: Agnes Water, Aldoga, Ambrose, Baffle Creek, Bangalee, Barney Point, Beecher, Benaraby, Berajondo, Bororen, Boyne Island, Boyne Valley, Boynedale, Burua, Callemondah, Calliope, Captain Creek, Clinton, Colosseum, Darts Creek, Deepwater, Gladstone, Glen Eden, Iveragh, Kin Kora, Kirkwood, Lowmead, Miriam Vale, Mount Larcom, New Auckland, Raglan, River Ranch, Rodds Bay, Rosedale, Round Hill, Rules Beach, Seventeen Seventy, South Gladstone, South Trees, Sun Valley, Tablelands, Tannum Sands, Taragoola, Targinnie, Telina, The Narrows, Toolooa, Turkey Beach, West Gladstone, Wooderson, Wurdong Heights, Yarwun.
