Applications now open for the 2022 Gladstone Region Youth Council

Are you aged between 15 and 24 and have a strong desire to make a positive change in our community?

Then now is the time to consider nominating for a position on the 2022 Gladstone Region Youth Council.

The Youth Council act as a formal advisory committee to Council and use their voice to promote initiatives and activities that are important to young people in our region.

Interested applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be aged 15 to 24 years
Reside in the Gladstone Region
Applications must be completed by the person applying for the Youth Council Position
Applicants can choose to submit the written application in full or can include a video application containing their response to the questions that display a video icon
Microsoft Teams connectivity for applicants living in remote areas (Agnes Water, Seventeen Seventy, Miriam Vale, Baffle Creek, Rosedale, Mt Larcom, Raglan etc.), although participation at meetings and Council events is highly encouraged where possible – fuel vouchers can be provided for members residing in remote areas to cover the cost of transportation.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said Gladstone Region Youth Council members play an important role in the community.

“Our young people are our future and their voice is important to us,” Councillor Burnett said.

“Members are selected based on their diverse strengths and experiences, knowledge of youth issues and willingness to bring about positive change in our region.

“Members are required to provide the perspective of young people through representation on other business and industry forums, and this year were involved in the Mayor’s Youth Breakfast, Youth Week, National Volunteers Week, Seniors Month, Springability and the Saiki Sister City Committee.

“They also volunteered at Luminous, Port to Park FunD Run, National Tree Day and PopCon.

“Youth Council members meet on the first and third Monday of the month, serving an initial one-year term with the ability to seek re-appointment for a subsequent term.

“I’d encourage any young person with a passion for their community to apply to be on next year’s Gladstone Region Youth Council.”
