Council welcomes funding commitments to improve major intersection
Council has welcomed funding commitments from the Federal Labor Opposition and the State Government to alleviate traffic concerns at the intersection of Drynan Drive and the Dawson Highway at Calliope
This intersection has daily high-traffic flows including frequent truck movements, with the road often crossed by school children.
Gladstone Region Deputy Mayor Kahn Goodluck said upgrades to the Drynan Drive intersection has been a project Council has supported for several years.
“Council has been passionately advocating for improvements to the Drynan Drive intersection for many years, so it’s great to see a solid funding commitment from both the State Government and Federal Opposition,” Councillor Goodluck said.
“Any school parent will tell you that this intersection becomes quite difficult to cross in times of high-peak traffic, especially around school drop-off and pick-up times.
“This intersection also services the Calliope Central Shopping Centre, Calliope Bowls Club and other nearby businesses, so improving traffic flow will also benefit them as well as the obvious safety improvements that will benefit school children and give parents extra peace of mind.”
Federal Labor has committed $4.8 million for the intersection upgrade with the State Government to commit $1.2m towards the project.
