Thousands ‘Take a Chance’ on 2025 Community Musical Mamma Mia!

The numbers are in and Gladstone’s 2025 Community Musical production of Mamma Mia! is being hailed as a success following the final show on Sunday 16 March.
Mamma Mia! saw 4635 patrons attend the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre (GECC) across eight shows (6-9 March and 13-16 March) with half of those sold out.
Some audience testimonials included:
- The production was first class, there is no more to say but fantastic
- Mamma Mia was incredible! It was a world class performance. Beautiful singing. The orchestra was unbelievable!
- Everything was excellent – cast, production, choreography, sets
- You could tell the actors really enjoyed themselves and the conductor of the music was fantastic
- This was a really great performance… The best local performance I have seen since I moved here over five years ago
- It was truly wonderful. I have seen this musical in London, and this was comparable!
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the dozens of positive reviews came as no surprise given the time, effort and talent of those involved with the production.
“Mamma Mia was another fantastic Community Musical that has once again shown just how much talent we have within the region,” Cr Burnett said.
“Since auditions in July last year the cast and crew have put in nearly 200 hours of rehearsals to make sure the show mirrors that of something you’d expect from Broadway or West End.”
Cr Burnett also paid tribute to Mamma Mia! director Jeannine Butler, who after 21 musicals across the past 26 years, has directed her final musical.
“Jeannine will be sorely missed, but I know the knowledge she has passed down over the years will influence musicals well into the future,” he said.
“As a tribute to Jeannine, the Stage Manager’s desk at GECC will be named in her honour, which is fantastic to see.
“I wish Jeannine all the best for the future and look forward to seeing what’s in store for Gladstone’s musical scene, which continues with the Combined Schools Musical in 2026 and another Community Musical in 2027.”
