Gallery & Museum launches four new exhibitions
As part of the Seniors Week celebrations in the Gladstone Region, Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum launched the 2019 Our Priceless Past: Oral Histories and Memorabilia exhibition.
Stories were prepared by Year 8 and Year 9 students from Gladstone State High School and are featured alongside photographs and memorabilia from 15 Priceless Past Special Seniors.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the 2019 Our Priceless Past project was a joint initiative of the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum and The Observer, supported by LiveBetter Community Services.
“The project presents a fantastic opportunity for our Gladstone Region youth to connect with and discover part of our region’s history,” Councillor Burnett said.
“No one recalls or retells our history better than those who lived it, and this exhibition highlights the priceless memories and experiences of our valued senior citizens.”
Not the only exhibition to launch this week, the 26th Golding Showcase: Port Curtis Callide Valley Youth Art Exhibition, Intercity Images: Gladstone Saiki Photographic Exchange Combined Images 2019 and Zonta – 100 years would officially be opened from 6pm, Friday 23 August.
Councillor Desley O'Grady said the 26th Golding Showcase was an annual initiative of the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum Society, supported by the late society patron, Mr Cyril Golding (1920 – 2012).
“The Golding Showcase offers young artists aged between 15 to 18 years the unique opportunity to display their artwork in a professional gallery space,” Cr O’Grady said.
The Intercity Images Combined Images is an annual photographic exchange between the Gladstone Region and Sister City, Saiki City, Japan.
“This photographic exchange will feature 30 selected Gladstone Region photographs along with 20 images from Japan,” she said.
The Zonta – 100 years exhibition features a collection of local objects, images and memorabilia from The Zonta Club of Gladstone Inc., celebrating 100 years of Zonta International and 27 years of service to the Gladstone Region.
Phone the Gallery & Museum on 4976 6766 or email gragm@gladstone.qld.gov.au to RSVP for both exhibition launches.
