Pedestrian bridge to honour pioneering woman
The Jeffery name will continue to live on at Agnes Water with the bridge located at Tom Jeffery Memorial Park to be named in honour of Beth Jeffery.
Council received an application in 2023 to add Beth Jeffery’s name to the bridge located within Tom Jeffery Memorial Park, with the application approved at last month’s general meeting.
Gladstone Region Deputy Mayor Kahn Goodluck said Tom and Beth Jeffery were early local settlers in the area.
“The Jeffery’s purchased freehold land in Agnes Water in 1945 and continued to own it until the late 1970s,” Councillor Goodluck said.
“Beth Jeffery played a huge role in running the property and assisting holidaymakers in the area.
“Fittingly, the pedestrian bridge linking Tom Jeffery Memorial Park and Agnes Water main beach – the main drawcard for holidaymakers who come to the area – will be named in Beth’s honour.”
