Community digs deep for beneficiaries of Santos GLNG Mayor’s Charity Ball
This year’s Santos GLNG Mayor’s Charity Ball has once again defied expectations with more than $123,000 raised for three worthy local beneficiaries.
Almost 450 people attended the 27 May event at Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre (GECC), enjoying the ‘Hollywood’ theme while being entertained by live and silent auctions, games and live music.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said he was hopeful that a significant amount of money would be raised from the 2023 Santos GLNG Mayor’s Charity Ball once tickets were snapped up within a matter of minutes.
“It’s my pleasure to announce that $123,517.42 was raised on the night,” Councillor Burnett said.
“This is a fantastic fundraising effort that takes the total amount of funds raised since the inaugural Mayor’s Ball in 2011 to $616.883.83.”
Cr Burnett said funds raised at the 2023 Santos GLNG Mayor’s Charity Ball will be split evenly between Gladstone Animal Rescue Group, Quoin Island Turtle Rehabilitation Centre and Zonta Club of Gladstone.
“These organisations do a fantastic job and provide invaluable services to our community, so these funds will ensure they can continue to carry on this work,” Cr Burnett said.
“As always, events such as this cannot take place without the generosity of the community and sponsors, especially Santos GLNG who have had a long association with the Mayor’s Charity Ball.
“I would like to thank all Platinum, Diamond, Gold and Silver sponsors, and other supporters who also contributed on the night.”
Cr Burnett acknowledged local businessman Bob McCosker, who won the car raffle – an MG ZST – and pledged it to local charity organisations.
“This was a very generous offer from Bob, as it will be used as a community car on a required basis for non-profit organisations in Gladstone,” he said.
“Bob also donated additional sponsorship to exceed the purchase price of the MG ZST.
“I’d also like to acknowledge Council’s Events Team, the Mayor’s Ball Committee, volunteers and GECC staff for once again hosting a memorable night that was enjoyed by all.
“Most importantly, I’m looking forward to seeing Gladstone Animal Rescue Group, Quoin Island Turtle Rehabilitation Centre and Zonta Club of Gladstone put these funds to good use in our community.”
