Intersection upgrade and surfacing at Nagoorin reaches halfway stage
A project to upgrade the road and surfacing to Norton Street and Dawes Street at Nagoorin has reached its halfway point.
The project, forming part of Council’s 2022/23 Capital Works program, involves the removal and replacement of existing culverts, pavement upgrade and installation of an asphalt surface to approximately 170m of Norton St (starting at Gladstone Monto Road) and 120m of Dawes St (starting at Gladstone Monto Road), and includes formalisation of the intersection between the streets.
Crews arrived onsite in mid-April and are expected to have the work completed by 20 May, weather permitting.
Construction is taking place Monday to Friday, 6am-5pm, with some vibration, dust and machinery noise expected to be generated due to the works.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the Norton and Dawes Streets, Nagoorin – Intersection Upgrade and Surfacing project received $361,000 funding from the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.
“These works will fill unsealed sections of road within the Boyne Valley, continuing Council’s focus on providing infrastructure improvements for the entire region,” Councillor Burnett said.
“This is one more improvement project for our region that has been made possible largely through external funding, not ratepayer dollars.”
Council has informed Nagoorin residents in advance of these works and updates will be provided for residents at Nagoorin Community Hall throughout the project.
The Nargoorin Resealing project was made possible through $361,000 funding from the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia.
