A new strategy has been endorsed to guide region’s road network
Council recognised the important role it plays in delivering transport services in the region by endorsing the GRC Transport Strategy 2022 (Transport Strategy) at yesterday’s Special General Meeting.
Set out as an initiative in the 2021/22 Operational Plan and Budget, the Transport Strategy outlines the strategic directions and priorities for the development of the regional road network.
The endorsement comes after a period of community engagement earlier this year, whereby Council collaborated with the community, including representatives from State Government, business and industry.
Gladstone Region Deputy Mayor Kahn Goodluck said the Transport Strategy identifies and sets the goals, roles and objectives for Council as the local road authority to support the region’s community, resilience, economic and safety needs.
“The Transport Strategy aims to ensure our assets are planned in a strategic, consistent, and effective way,” Councillor Goodluck said.
“This will effectively support our region’s growth and productivity, outlining 24 short term, medium to long term and ongoing actions to prioritise and manage the road network.
“Some of the actions Gladstone Region residents can expect to benefit from include a focus on road safety education campaigns, improved heavy vehicle planning, traffic surveys for monitoring of traffic growth in the region and a review of active tourism such as Rail Trail, mountain biking and hiking.”
