Gladstone loses a fearless advocate
Gladstone Region Mayor, Matt Burnett, said the local community has been saddened to learn of the passing of tireless community leader and advocate, Leigh Zimmerlie.
He said Leigh dedicated much of her life to promote and grow the Gladstone Region, serving in key roles with tourism and community organisations, and sitting on different boards.
She was Chair of Gladstone Area Promotion and Development Limited (GAPDL) for more than 10 years and a Board Member for 20 years.
Leigh worked as the Chief Executive Officer of the former Gladstone Area Group Apprentices Limited (GAGAL), now known as Apprentices and Trainees Queensland (ATQLD), and was a director at Gladstone Airport Corporation.
She also contributed to regional arts through her role as President of Creative Gladstone Region Inc.
“Leigh was always a staunch supporter of Gladstone and a very dear friend of mine.
“She was a beautiful, kind and caring soul that shone bright with confidence, energy and positivity and had the best interests of the community at the centre of everything she did,” Councillor Burnett said.
Cr Burnett said his thoughts were with Leigh’s loved ones – Dennis, Paula, Ryan and family.
Leigh Zimmerlie will be farewelled at a funeral service on Thursday at the Boyne Tannum Memorial Parklands Chapel from 2pm.
